Do you remember Larry (Lemoyne) the Indian? We have been gifted an amazing artifact. Larry's outfit that he wore at Chippewa Lake Park. He was the operator of the archery range at Chippewa Lake Park. He gave lectures about Native Americans during the months that CLP was closed in Cleveland schools and beyond. We are so excited to accept this gift to our museum. We can't wait to have our museum completed so we can display this wonderful artifact.

MCPD News Release
Chippewa Lake Historical Society and Medina County Park District Announce Partnership and Plans for Museum, Parking
Medina County Park District (MCPD) and the Chippewa Lake Historical Society (CLHS) have partnered on a ten-year lease that will bring a museum and new trailhead to Chippewa Lake Park in 2025.
Effective this month, CLHS is leasing property from MCPD located at 7464 Lake Road in Lafayette Township. The three-bedroom, 1,000-square-foot house, built in 1920, sits at the corner of Lake Road and Longacre Lane, at the north end of the former amusement park property. CLHS plans to use this historic home as its headquarters and as a small indoor museum. The surrounding yard will feature artifacts from the former amusement park, including a ticket booth and ride cars.
In 2025, MCPD will begin Phase 1 construction of public access amenities at the former amusement park property, including parking, trails, restrooms, and picnic shelters north of Main Drive. The area leased to CLHS will serve as one of two planned trailheads in this first phase of development. Once parking is established, CLHS plans to open its museum doors one Saturday per month from May through October each year.
Founded in 2015, CLHS is dedicated to preserving the memories of Chippewa Lake, from its earliest Native American inhabitants to today's water skiers and photographers. The society's primary focus is on Chippewa Lake Park and the countless individuals who created lasting memories there. "We are beyond pleased to partner with Medina County Park District in restoring the site on the former farm of Parker Beach, a name synonymous with Chippewa Lake," said Gayle Foster, president of CLHS. "Over the past decade, we have collected photos, memorabilia, and oral histories. We are excited to finally have a museum to display and share our finds with the community and beyond."
Chippewa Lake Amusement Park operated from 1878 to 1978 featuring rides, a hotel, and a ballroom. Renowned entertainers such as bandleaders Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, and Lawrence Welk performed there. The park was a popular site for company picnics hosted by industrial giants like Firestone, Ohio Edison, Timken, and Rubbermaid. Notable visitors included Henry Ford and Thomas Edison.
Materials, donations, and volunteers will be needed to get the museum started. Please contact CLHS at chippewalakehistory@gmail.com if you would like to get involved in this exciting project.
